The system prevents the vehicle from being started unless the correct personalised PIN sequence is entered using the vehicle’s existing buttons and controls. Darren was able to get me in my front door when I’d locked myself and was swift, friendly and professional. When I went back to them later to get a second key for my car they were upfront and honest with me, telling me that the best route for my particular model of car was to go to the dealer as the key had to come from France. Why does my car key need to be "programmed"?

Since 2001, it has been law in Australia that all new vehicles were to be fitted with factory immobilisers.

All car keys since then have what’s called a “transponder” in the head of the key. This communicates with the engine’s computer and tells the car that it’s ok to start. Without this chip, the car won’t start at all!
